A lot is written about so called 'Jews'. This term is a catch-all word, referring to a group of people belonging to a certain religion, race, nationality or even ideology.1
Etymosophically the word stems from the name of the god 'Yhwh', in Latin script also written as, for instance, 'Jehovah' and 'Yahweh'.2, 3, 4 So etymosophically Jews are worshippers of the god Yhwh, are basically followers of Judaism, the religion in which Yhwh is praised.5
Etymosophically the term 'Jews' could also be used to refer to the inhabitants of Judah, which was a kingdom in archaic times in what is now called 'Israel', although normally the term 'Judahites' is applied for those inhabitants.6, 7
A non-etymosophical reference is made when the term 'Jew' is used to refer to an Israelite. Originally an Israelite is one who descends from Jacob, who by Yhwh (through the appearance of a man) was given the name 'Israel', meaning 'striver with God'.8, 9 So in this sense Jews are strivers with God.
However 'Israel' is also the name of a contemporary nation, and in a more practical sense an Israelite is thus an Israelian national. And Israelian nationals do not necessarily descend from Jacob or worship Yhwh, for there are, for instance, Islamic and Christian Israelian nationals too.10
Now 'Israel' was already the name of an archaic kingdom that existed in the same time as the above mentioned 'Judah'.11 However together with Judah the kingdom disappeared a very long time ago. And their absence then gave rise to the ideology of bringing (back) to life a state for the worshippers of Yhwh and the descenders from Jacob. And those endorsing this ideology then are called 'Zionists'.
Now 'Zionist' and 'Zionism' are etymologically rooted in 'Zion', which is the name of Jerusalem in general, and specifically of a hill therein on which the rule of king David was established.12, 13, 14, 15 So where 'Zionism' more specifically refers to the ideology of establishing a Jewish state, there does it more generally (and more essentially) refer to the ideology of establishing Jewish rule.
Now those rejecting Zionists, Israelites and Jews are often called 'antisemites', for the former mentioned are generally considered to be racially Semites.16, 17 But the race of the Semites consists of more groups than just the aforementioned. The Semitic race also includes for instance Arabs, Akkadians, Aramaeans, Assyrians and Canaanites who aren't Zionists, Israelites or Jews.18, 19 The specific race overlapping Zionists, Israelites or Jews regards rather that of the Hebrews, who are those that are generally considered as descenders from Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. This term 'Hebrew' is etymologically traced back through the Hebrew 'ibrī', meaning 'one from the other side', to the name 'Abram' or 'Abraham'.20, 21 So a Hebrew is etymosophically someone who is from the other side and a descender from Abraham.
Thus then Jews, Israelites, Zionists and Hebrews (Hebrew Semites) are discerned from each other. Jews are defined by their religion, Israelites by their nationality, Zionists by their ideology and Hebrews by their race, and one does not necessary presuppose another. At the same time it must however also be considered that the overlap of the aforementioned is much higher than that in for instance Western societies, where religions, nationalities, ideologies and races of all kinds of combinations can be found abundantly.
Jews, Israelites, Zionists and Hebrews, we may conclude here, are correlated separates.
