§

The antichrist can in general be considered as the principle of involution which captivates spirit in matter, and the Christ as the principle of evolution which spiritualizes that matter.1 The antichrist as the principle of involution can also be called 'Lucifer'.2 Lucifer is the morningstar or Venus bringing self-consciousness or individuality or the soul to humanity when spirit enters matter.3, 4, 5 It is when this individualisation of souls has taken place at the deepest moment of involution that the Christ principle, or the principle of evolution, ruled by the sun,6, 7 takes over, and this takeover is meant to lead to the full spiritualization of matter. In this process however evolution is obstructed by the still present activity and attraction of matter, pulling at spirit and soul. This anti-evolutionary or devolutionary principle then regards the antichristian Satan, and it is ruled by Saturn.8 And when such an obstruction of evolution by the anti-evolutionary, materialistic forces happens then the captivated spirit intervenes by bringing the captivating forms to an end, and this principle, which can be called 'the principle of dissolution' and which is ruled by Pluto, regards the antichristian Hades.9, 10 When however Satan loses all grip then no dissolution occurs but a 'resolution' wherein matter is fully spiritualized, and this principle of resolution is ruled by the planet Vulcan and personified by the Father of the holy trinity.11, 12, 13

The above statements we see tabulated in figure 1. They were however also considered in earlier contemplations, and in one of these a symbolization as in figure 2 was given, here depicted with the addition of the Father.14

Principle Personification Planet
Involution Lucifer / the antichrist Venus
Evolution The Christ Sun
Devolution / anti-evolution Satan / the antichrist Saturn
Dissolution Hades / the antichrist Pluto
Resolution The Father Vulcan

Figure 2: The personified cycles of involution, evolution, devolution, dissolution and resolution.

Now above involution, evolution, devolution, dissolution and resolution and their personifications were considered as general principles, but they are also active in individuals. When the deepest fall of spirit into matter was reached during the cycle of involution the human individual came to being, who then as a lost son started his evolutionary pilgrimage back to the house of the father, to the one spirit.15

This evolution takes place during many personal lives, where each time under the rule of Lucifer incarnation into a new physical body takes place.16 Many lives are needed because when evolving under the rule of the Christ, a human experiences the forces of devolution which under the rule of Satan try to pull him back towards materialistic orientations.17 And when the human succumbs, this leads inevitably to the crystallization of matter, which under the rule of Hades evokes dissolution through destruction and death.18 Thus the human spirit is set free from its material prison, until under the rule of Lucifer a new incarnation takes place and another try for the full spiritualization of the individual matter is given. In the end, when Satan has lost his grip on the human entirely, under the rule of the Father the individual completes his pilgrimage by returning to the Father's house. His material body is then abstracted into spirit, and he ascends entirely to heaven.19, 20

So the cycle for the struggling man runs from involution to evolution to devolution to dissolution, or from Lucifer to Christ to Satan to Hades, or from incarnation to expansion of consciousness to temptation to death, and then to another such a cycle. And the cycle for the succeeding man runs from involution to evolution to resolution, or from Lucifer to Christ to the Father, or from incarnation to expansion of consciousness to ascension, terminating thus the route through temptation and death. These cycles we see symbolized in the figures 3 and 4.

May then all come to terminate the route running through temptation and death.

"At individualisation the two poles are approximated, and at their meeting light streams forth, irradiating the cave of matter, and lighting the pathway that must be trodden by the Pilgrim on his way back to his source.
This irradiation brings about, in connection with man,
    Self-realisation.
    Purpose.
Separation from all other individualised selves, or spheres.
    Consciousness, above all.
    Ability to evolve.
Capacity to "shine ever more and more unto the perfect day."
This is equally true of a solar Logos, and of a Heavenly Man.
Individualisation is literally the coming together (out of the darkness of abstraction), of the two factors of Spirit and matter by means of a third factor, the intelligent will, purpose and action of an Entity. By the approximation of these two poles light is produced, a flame shines forth, a sphere of radiant glory is seen which gradually increases the intensity of its light, its heat and its radiance until capacity is reached, or that which we call perfection."
  16. Ibidem, p. 825-829. "In these three circles of petals lies concealed another clue to the mystery of the 777 incarnations. The figures do not convey an exact number of years, but are figurative and symbolical; they are intended to convey the thought of three cycles of varying duration, based upon the septenary nature of the manifesting monad. […].
First. The 700 incarnations. These concern the unfoldment of the outer circle. This is the longest period. […].
Second. The 70 incarnations. These concern the unfoldment of the middle circle. […]. This cycle covers the period passed by the man in the Hall of Learning […].
Third. The 7 incarnations. These are those passed upon the Probationary Path. […].
At the termination of the 777 incarnations, a man passes through the door of initiation and enters upon a brief synthesising process, or a final period in which he garners the fruits of the experience in the two first halls, and transmutes knowledge into wisdom, transforms the shadow of things seen into the energy of that which is, and achieves the final liberation from all the lower forms which seek to hold him prisoner."
  17. The Light of the Soul, p. 149. "Pain is the product of these form activities, for pain is the result of the inherent difference between the pairs of opposites, spirit and matter. Both the factors are "at peace" essentially until brought into conjunction and both resist each other and produce friction and suffering when united in time and space."
  18. Alice A. Bailey, The Consciousness of the Atom, in: Twenty-Four Books of Esoteric Philosophy, (CD-ROM), Lucis Trust, London / New York, 2001, p. 64. "Finally, in the later stages of life, we have the crystallisation of the form, and the man's realisation of its inadequacy. Then comes the happy release which we call death, that great moment in which the "spirit in prison" escapes from the confining walls of its physical form."
  19. The Rays and the Initiations, p. 513. "6. Resurrection and Ascension.
This is the rising up of the consciousness out of soul and personality limitations (from the angle of the monad) and its passing into that of the Spiritual Triad."
